Abstract: The SMARTICS PhD project aims to improve the reliability of mechanical systems by developing intelligent components capable of detecting and anticipating failures through the innovative integration of sensors. Instead of relying on systematic maintenance, the project adopts a condition-based approach using embedded sensors and supervision modules. The objective is to design instrumented mechanical parts by leveraging advanced additive and hybrid manufacturing technologies, enabling real-time monitoring through digital twins. Positioned at the intersection of design, manufacturing, and supervision, the project is structured around four main areas: optimizing sensor integration from the design stage, adapting manufacturing processes to allow for such integration, developing data processing tools to feed the digital twins, and finally, creating a mechanical demonstrator to evaluate the effectiveness of the approach. Led through a collaboration between the TIMA and G-SCOP laboratories, the project aligns with the objectives of the Labex Persyval by contributing to research in predictive maintenance, robust design, and modeling of cyber-physical systems.
