Prof. Renato P. Ribas was born in Santa Rosa – RS, Brazil, in 1969. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, in 1991, and Campinas University (Unicamp), Brazil, in 1994, respectively. He received the PhD. degree in microelectronics from Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG), France, in 1998. He is professor at Institute of Computer Science at UFRGS, and his areas of interest are MEMS and digital circuit design.


The combination of logic synthesis and physical synthesis should result in very optimized CMOS gates. It is useful for different CMOS structures and logic families, including single-rail and dual-rail, static and dynamic approaches. A set of CAD tools exploring such areas has been developed in C/C++ and Java platforms and integrated in DFII-Cadence and Falcon-Mentor frameworks. In the logic synthesis, library-less technology mapping seems to be very promising for complex CMOS structures, like Domino and DCVS. In the physical synthesis, the automatic logic cell generation for different logic families reduces the effort to cell library construction, being also complementary for the library-less mapping.
